What affects a used excavator price
This page is a short reference on what affects a used excavator price. Year, hours, undercarriage, hydraulics, structure, attachments and market demand — the factors that move a used excavator price.
A used price is a condition price, not a model price
Two machines of the same model can sit thousands of dollars apart. What separates them is the condition of the components that cost the most to repair.
Hours and how they were run
Meter hours are one input, and a reference rather than proof. The work the machine did matters as much: a machine on light duties at high hours can be in better shape than a hard-worked low-hour unit.
Undercarriage
Chain, shoes, rollers, sprocket and idler wear is expensive to put right, so it is one of the biggest price levers on any used excavator.
Hydraulics, engine and structure
Pump response and combined movement under load, cold start and smoke, plus welds and pin play in the boom, arm and carbody, all move the number.
Attachments and market demand
Quick couplers, breakers, thumbs and extra buckets add value where they are fitted. Demand for a class in a given market also moves the price independent of the machine itself.
